Committee of Adjustment Decides on Deferral of Redevelopment Proposal for Brennan Pontiac Site

February 19th, 2010 – A Message from The Resident’s Working Group (RWG)

To Residents of Ward 25 and 26:

On February 17th, 2010, the North York Committee of Adjustment decided that the developer’s application for minor variance be deferred SINE DIE (for an indefinite period) for the submission and review of a Site Plan application.

The Resident’s Working Group (RWG) was in attendance with a strong contingent of community residents as well as local land and business owners. RWG spokespersons advised the committee that they and the hundreds of people who had signed a petition were opposed to the project.

The community’s opposition to the variances requested was recognized by the Committee. The submission of a Site Plan Application by the developer allows City staff in various departments an opportunity to review in more detail the impacts of the project on the neighbourhood. The departments consulted will include: Urban Planning, Traffic, Urban Forestry, Fire Department etc.

NEXT STEPS

The RWG is planning another community meeting (date and venue to be finalized) to:

  • inform you of the status of the application
  • give you information about the site plan process
  • discuss proposed strategies as we move forward.

WE COULD USE YOUR EXPERTISE

The RWG would like to meet with any residents who are either urban planners or lawyers (with expertise in planning, zoning and/or municipal matters).
