Message from the Northlea Community Blood Donor Clinic Committee
Be part of Northlea Community’s 18th Blood Donor Clinic
A Leaside mother, neighbour and friend is fighting cancer.
A note from her husband – “Cathy is a 44 year old Leaside resident and mother of three children, who was suddenly diagnosed with a life threatening leukemia in February 2011. Her only chance at a cure was intensive chemotherapy followed by a Stem Cell Transplant. Cathy did find a donor match through Onematch in July, after numerous stem cell swabbing events held in her honour, one held here at Northlea. At present, we do not know from where, but are very grateful to that generous anonymous person out there. Cathy is scheduled for transplant this October. During this procedure Cathy will again require constant transfusions of blood products as she did during her previous three rounds of chemotherapy in order to survive. To date Cathy has received well over 30 units of blood and 25 units of platelets. Without these generous donations, people like Cathy would have no chance at survival.”
In November of 2002, two Leaside area students were diagnosed with leukemia in the same week. They required blood transfusions to save their lives and help them fight the disease. The Leaside community began running blood donor clinics twice a year to support them in their battle.
Cathy and her her family need our support and encouragement. Your presence and donation at the clinic will give her that, and save lives at the same time.
