Rayleigh Town Council’s annual town meeting rewarded adults & children as part of the Citizen of the Year celebrations. Edward Byford was given the top accolade of the night when he was named the Citizen of the Year.
As reported in The Echo newspaper, Mr. Byford helps disabled people learn woodwork at the Hadleigh Salvation Army Training Centre, collects polls and votes at election time and lends a hand with crowd and traffic control at Rayleigh’s Christmas lights switch-on event. He said he was pleasantly surprised to hear he had won the award. He added: “Over the years, I have been involved with the Chamber of Trade, the family fun day and Rayleigh in Bloom. I was shocked, surprised and delighted to hear I had won the award.”
