Toronto City Councillor
Ward 26 – Don Valley West
The prominent red brick farmhouse at the top end of Bessborough Drive (immediately south of the high school) has recently changed hands.
The new owner proposes to remove the north and south wings of the existing dwelling, restore the front and sides of the original structure, and move it to a location closer to the front of the property.
The new owner also intends to sever the north and south portions of the property to create a total of three lots, each somewhat more than thirty feet in width. Each proposed new lot conforms to existing bylaw provisions.
The existing dwelling would occupy the middle lot. The new owner proposes to build one new dwelling on each of the other two new lots.
It is to be noted that the existing dwelling has been “listed” – but not fully “designated” – under Part IV of the Ontario Heritage Act. The wings to be removed were added to the original structure some years after the original structure was built.
It is also to be noted that the proposal includes the removal of at least one large mature tree and the contribution of a number of new trees.
At my request, the new owner has agreed to host a public meeting at the Leaside Library next Wednesday to make its plans known to the community. The attached flyer in that connection is to be distributed to homes in the immediate vicinity.
Meeting particulars are;
Leaside Library, 165 McRae Drive
Wednesday 27 February 2013
Start time: 7:00 pm
End time: 8:30 pm
Please note that this proposal does not involve an application to rezone the property and no application of any sort has been submitted to the City.
This is not a mandatory meeting under any rule. It is strictly an information session for the benefit of interested members of the community.
