If you grew up near 640 Millwood Road in Davisville Village, then you were likely curious about the little house on Millwood Road that was never lived in. As you grew older, you learned it was a hydro substation camouflaged as a red brick cape-cod style home, complete with decorative shutters and a front yard with well maintained shrubs and a nice green lawn.
According to a notice posted this week, the Millwood “Hydro House” will become part of history, as it is being decommissioned. The notice posted by K.P.C Power Electrical Ltd., on behalf of Toronto Hydro reads,
Toronto Hydro is actively completing a program to decommission Millwood MS, located at 640 Millwood Road. In order to safely remove its electrical equipment located inside the station, workers require a clear road area near the station, as heavy machinery and service vehicles will occupy this area.
This work is scheduled to take place during the hours of 7:00am – 5:00pm, Wednesday April 28th, 2021 until Friday April 30th, 2021.
Blogto wrote an article about Toronto Hydro’s not-so-hidden residential substations in 2010. When they published the piece, there were 90 residential substations in the city, down from around 150. An interesting read!
